Geopolitics in Middle East: What is the intention of Turkey?

Still in development!

1. Resources of Turkey!

If anyone would like to seek for the “naval of the world”, where everything meets and everyone has to cross than it is the Republic of Turkey within its borders since the war of independence, after the the WWI. The main resource of Turkey is its geographical location. For decades, because of making itself dependent on USA and Europe, Turkey was not using its geopolitical power. This has changed after the coup of 1980 and got accelerated with the beginning of the rule of the AKP of Mr. Erdogan in 2002.

People in smaller and less strategic regions of NATO think that their country has the same value like Turkey, just because they are members of the same organization. I advise them to look onto the map. The geography defines the value, interests, targets, alliances and decisions of the country. Most other countries could leave NATO without any strategic loss. Some of these countries are more a burden, but from military perspective all countries near the defined main enemy, which is Russian Federation, are the most valuable and the most important one among them is the Republic of Turkey.

The economic importance of Turkey becomes clear when we just look at the energy pipelines or the flight routes.

Turkey in general and particularly Istanbul is the bridge, meeting point, the crossroad, industrial and trade center for nearly everything, just because of its geographical location and conditions.

2. Protecting peace and security!

The next step of Project for a Greater Middle East!

As you can observe from the given sources and the after-map above, prior to the establishment of Kurdistan as independent state, first Iraq and Syria than Turkey and Iran have to fall and rebuild within shrunken borders or by balkanization of the region with small statelets of easy exploitable size, as stipulated by the imperial powers. Under this scheme even not one but three to five tiny Kurdistans may be formed.

This is not a new “creative” plan, but already the British Empire promised a Great Arabia, but actual results are known to us. They awarded small administrative units to desert pirates, where hardly any statehood exists, but pure abuse and exploitation.

Turkey is abiding international and bilateral treaties and the most important one for the Black Sea Region is the Montreux Treaty of 1936. The rules of this treaty don’t allow NATO and the USA to establish a permanent naval base at the shores of the Black Sea.

To break this treaty, the USA have to eliminate the statehood of the Republic of Turkey. Breaking the treaty would reestablish the conditions of war with Russian Federation. Good relations with Russia are in the best political and economic interests of Turkey. Therefore Turkey protects the Montreux Treaty actively.

Turkey opposed permanent NATO presence in the Black Sea, rebuffed Romanian proposal
January 16, 2020 Nordic Monitor

The minutes reveal that Romania had requested Turkey’s support for its diplomatic initiative aimed at setting up a regional naval command under NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), the headquarters of all NATO maritime forces. However, Turkish officials agreed to reject the Romanian proposal since it did not comply with Turkey’s policy on the Black Sea, the minutes stated.

Turkey had previously expressed concern about perceived Russian ambitions in the Black Sea region and called for a greater NATO presence there; however, its relations with Russia have improved since 2016, and Turkey has become resistant to backing a more substantial NATO role in the Black Sea.

Turkey is a key country in the Black Sea since it controls the entrance and exit to the sea through the Turkish Straits system, which includes the Istanbul/Bosporus strait, the Dardanelles/Çanakkale strait and the Marmara Sea, connecting the Black and Mediterranean seas.

The l936 Montreux Convention gave the country control over the system and guaranteed the free passage of civilian vessels during peacetime. The convention stipulates that only littoral states can have a standing naval presence in the Black Sea. The tonnage and time spent in the Black Sea by ships from non-littoral states is restricted to 21 days, and submarines and aircraft carriers of non-littoral states are banned altogether.

Romania considered Russia’s takeover of Crimea in March 2014 a direct threat and pressed NATO to have a strong presence in the Black Sea. Following the annexation of Crimea, naval assets from several allied nations and NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 2 increased military exercises in the region and regularly train for combat proficiency in the Black Sea. Furthermore, a Black Sea functional center has been established within MARCOM, and a multinational land brigade was formed in Craiova, Romania.

3. Surviving imperial Deep-State!

Consider that the failed coup in Turkey was organized, supplied and managed by NATO employees from the Incirlik Airbase and by “coincidence”, between others preparations, the German patriot systems were taken back from Syrian border.

The question must arise, in addition to the 4 tanker jets of the coupsters, where only 3 were used, if also the German tanker jet was involved and if the fighter jets were navigated by the German technicians at the airbase! Evaluating the comparably “friendly” eviction of the German forces out of Incirlik Airbase, a part guilt must have been assumed. In the night of the failed coup, the airbase was fully blocked by the citizens! The survival of the government guaranteed the survival of the foreign forces!

Refuiling from Incirlik!

The F-16 fighter jets which took part in the coup have been refueled at least 10 times by the tanker jets with about ca. 210 tons of jet fuel!

As the elected government survived this coup, which is unique in the history of Turkey, and an expected second attempt could be prevented successfully, the people of Turkey expect a much greater attempt of rupture, e.g. based on ethnic division in Kurds, Turks and Arabs or religious division in Alawites, Sunnis etc..

4. Role of Turkey in Syria!

As a member of coalition of the willing against Syria, the intention of Turkey was to pave the way for a oil and gas pipeline from Arabia to its own pipeline network and make profit from transit fees. Syria had to fall within 6 weeks, later 6 months and when Syria stayed also after 6 years and rolled back the front against imperial mercenaries, framed as Jihadist rebels, the coalition broke apart and the interests of Turkey changed.

Now for Turkey it is only about damage containment and securing own borders and its mere existence. Eventually Turkey have to forced the Kurds to submit themselves to the Syrian statehood. After securing the border, Turkey has sent about 370 thousand refugees back to Syria until 04th December 2019. This is also in the interest of EU. It was more than clear that Syria and Russia will concede to the Afrin and now to the safe zone operation of Turkey.

Although the president of Turkey is behaving authoritarian, swanky threatening, even mobilizing his army, for the state apparatus it is about the naked survival of the Republic of Turkey.

The people elect the dictatorship, because fearing the brake-down of the country, if it is not clung together by power. Whatever You would like to imagine to keep the Erdogan bashing alive, it is not about the the person Mr. Erdogan, but about having an elected strongman who is able to prevent the rupture of the country.

5. Breaking abyss made by Empire!

Turkey is standing in front of the worst abyss in its history, because also Turkey has to be teared apart like Syria, according the framework of the Project for a Greater Middle East (PfGME). Only an elected dictator can avoid this and a bloody civil war.

The Anglo-American Military Roadmap in the Middle East and Central Asia

As paradox as it may sound, until the coup against Mohammad Mursi by general Sisi in Egypt, Mr. Erdogan was a openly self declared co-leader of the PfGME. After the fall of Mursi and persecution of Muslim Brotherhood, it became clear, that he was the last muslim-brother to be toppled!

Considering the official declaration of the USA about the formation of 30.000 strong Kurdish “border protection army” and the massive armament of this unit, including the air defense rockets, tankers and the buildup of statehood administration structures, supported by Europeans, the Republic of Turkey has to fear the loss of a bigger chuck of its own territory to this potential entity.

U.S.-Backed Force Could Cement a Kurdish Enclave in Syria

The 30,000-strong force, vehemently opposed by Russia, Turkey, Iran and the Syrian government, could also ignite a new phase in the war that could pit American allies against one another and draw the United States deeper into the conflict.

What makes the Turkish part of Kurdistan geopolitically more valuable are its water resources. Kurdistan is for Turkey and other neighbors similar to Himalaya for China, Pakistan and India. Water is much more worthy than oil in the Middle East. Turkey is producing a big share of electricity for its industry and people and also food by using the huge water dams in the mountains of Kurdistan.

Turkey is binding the Terrorists in northern Syria for own interest, that the Syrian Army can clean up in other centers. This terrorist armies were build and weaponized by the western secret services, mainly the CIA and MI6, but have now become a useful tool for Turkey.

US Has Backed 21 of the 28 ‘Crazy’ Militias Leading Turkey’s Brutal Invasion of Northern Syria
October 18, 2019 • By Max Blumenthal

New data from Turkey reveals almost all the mercenary force of “Arab militias” getting slammed by former and current U.S. officials were armed and trained in the past by the CIA and Pentagon, reports Max Blumenthal.

But the fighters involved in the atrocities in northern Syria were not just random tribesmen assembled into an ad hoc army. In fact, many were former members of the Free Syrian Army, the force once armed by the CIA and Pentagon and branded as “moderate rebels.” This disturbing context was conveniently omitted from the breathless denunciations made by U.S. officials and Western pundits.

According to a research paper published this October by the pro-government Turkish think tank, SETA, “Out of the 28 factions [in the Turkish mercenary force], 21 were previously supported by the United States, three of them via the Pentagon’s program to combat DAESH. Eighteen of these factions were supplied by the CIA via the MOM Operations Room in Turkey, a joint intelligence operation room of the ‘Friends of Syria’ to support the armed opposition. Fourteen factions of the 28 were also recipients of the U.S.-supplied TOW anti-tank guided missiles.” (A graph by SETA naming the various militias and the type of U.S. support they received is at the end of this article).

In other words, virtually the entire apparatus of insurgents arrayed against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime — and armed and equipped under the Obama administration — has been repurposed by the Turkish military to serve as the spearhead of its brutal invasion of northern Syria. The leader of this force is Salim Idriss, now the “defense minister” of Syria’s Turkish-backed “interim government.” He’s the same figure who hosted John McCain when the late senator made his infamous 2013 incursion into Syria.

For Turkey it becomes tough in Syria. Look, these are the only allies Turkey needs to depend on. But these thugs are there to be eliminated and not pose a threat in Turkey or anywhere else.

The invasion of Turkey into northern Syria is an invitation for the Syrian army to get control onto these Syrian borders. Turkey will retreat as soon as the border is secured by the Syrian Army and its allies and the Kurdish forces are contained within Syria.

3. Military emancipation!

Another point is the fact, that Turkey is becoming more and more independent in the area of military equipment. If Turkey doesn’t get the US F35 fighter jets, Turkey will use this as a pretext to bu Russian SU57 and intensify the cooperation with Russia to complete its own 5th generation fighter jet.

Reading the following quotes, we may learn, that TFX is posed to replace the F35 and compete it in the global market! That may be the real reason for USA, not to supply the F35 jets to Turkey. Turkey could use the “few procured” F35 to accelerate its own project.

For decades, the modern Turkish air force relied on Western partners to stock its available inventory. Prospects changed when, during the 1980s, the government inked a deal that would allow local license production of the General Dynamics (now Lockheed) F-16 Fighting Falcon lightweight 4th Generation Fighter. This provided Turkish workers and engineers with the groundwork to further local aviation knowledge and experience which has ultimately evolved today to become a standalone operation with ever-growing capabilities for the nation of Turkey.

Turkey stands to distance itself from its reliance on foreign providers of its military requirements in the long term and has set its sights on an indigenous 5th Generation Fighter concept recognized under the “TFX” program name (also known as the “F-X”).

The primary goal of the Turkish program is to find a indigenous successor to the storied and excellent F-4 Phantom II and early-model F-16 platforms while also complementing the soon-to-be Lockheed F-35 “Lightning II” which the Turkish Air Force is expecting to procure in some number. The initial two-year concept phase for the TFX was begun in 2011. In March of 2013, Saab of Sweden was brought in to help support the TFX program from a technological standpoint. Tusas Engine Industries (TEI) is charged with production of the required powerplant.

If the TFX program comes to fruition, however, the Turkish Air Force stands to accept somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 aircraft based on the selected TFX concept. Unlike the F-35 – which is limited in its export reach – the TFX end-product could be sold to interested export parties without US-instituted restrictions and the F-35’s hefty price tag.

The geographical location of Turkey, with sea strait and water reservoirs makes this country indispensable for any geostrategy between the 3 continents. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) would accept Turkey, after leaving NATO, with the greatest pleasure.

Turkey’s Status

On 23 March 2011, Turkey applied for receiving the Status of Dialogue Partnership in the Organization. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) approved Turkey’s application to become a Dialogue Partner at the Summit of the Heads of State of the SCO held in Beijing, China on 6-7 June 2012. Memorandum setting out cooperation modalities between Turkey as Dialogue Partner and the SCO was signed on 26 April 2013 in Almaty. Ratification process of the aforementioned document has been concluded by the adoption of the Cabinet of Ministers Decision dated 1 May 2017 in the Official Journal on 24.05.2017.

Dialogue Partnership envisages the improvement of cooperation between Turkey and SCO in various subjects mainly in regional security, fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and preventing organized crime as well as economic and cultural fields.

All that targets of SCO mean, standing against the open and covert activities of the USA, particularly of the CIA. The CIA generates covert income by all criminal activities.

Although the threat by an expansive Soviet Union doesn’t exist any more, Turkey will stay in NATO to prevent NATO decisions against its own interests and push own goals by using the NATO, but factually it will cooperate with the SCO, because all its members are natural allies of Turkey because of industrial interdependence. The dependency on the USA is dwindling, accelerated by sanctions imposed by the US administration.
